The recently completed New Balance Sports Research Lab in Lawrence, MA is looking for runners! Check out a short segment done on our lab by WBZTV ( http://wbztv.com/bostonmarathon/boston. … 84934.html). We are constantly doing research and product testing related to running, but in order to do this research and testing we need athletes! A typical trip would involve about an hour in our Sports Research Lab with our trained experts using our state of the art equipment. As compensation, we will let you keep a pair of
awesome New Balance running shoes. We are especially interested in men who are size 9.5 because this is the size we create prototype shoes in. We are also very interested in women who are a size 7. If you are not that size, don’t worry because we often do other studies and testing where we are looking for other sizes. If you would like to help us out, see a research lab unlike any other, and get a new pair of the finest running shoes around, email us! sportsresearch@newbalance.com

G.A.C. Mother's Day Run for Breast Cancer

By Sheri Hewson

Mother’s Day, trail run, food and friends . . . . does it get any better than that?  The G.A.C. hosts a six hour Mother’s Day Run each year on Mother’s Day for breast cancer at Bradley Palmer Park.  The course is a three mile loop that you run as often as you would like.  No, you do not have to run for six hours – that is just the time frame for the beginning and the end because yes, Virginia, some people do run for the entire six hours.

For a couple years now my friend Lori has suggested I should do this trail run and I have politely declined as I was extremely intimidated by the time frame and have never done a trail run.  Well, last year I decided to “suck it up” and do it.  I finished my first loop and came to the aid station for a drink – I was in heaven when I saw the amount of food on that table.  You name it and it was there.  I did four loops that day and went home, happy, tired, full and in love with trail running.

This year I brought my friend Cindy along and we joined Stephanie and Dan Cooper, Bill Morse, Jay Curry and Alison Phelan.  Well, let’s put “joined” into perspective . . . . I saw them at the beginning, chatted with them and said hello as we passed on the trail!  Like last year it was a gorgeous day and it was great to see so many people running and walking for a great cause.  As with last year there was food, food and more food which you know makes me incredibly happy – makes me almost want to train for an ultra if this is the way they eat!  I did four loops again this year, Steph and Alison did five and I believe Dan, Bill and Jay did six.  As if the trail running was not enough, “the guys” also helped a family that tipped in their canoe – yeah, you will have to ask them about that . . . .

This is a great run for a great cause with great people.  I encourage everyone to mark their calendars for Mother’s Day 2010 and join in the fun!

Wicked Running Club-Open House 2009

Lots of activity at the Annual Wicked Running Club Open House

What a great weekend for the Wicked Running Club! On Saturday Wicked hosted it’s Annual Wicked Open House at the Salem Common. Normally at Forest River Park, this year the event was held in conjunction with the Salem Park & Rec, Fitness Day on the Common. There are now eleven new Wicked Members to get to know and cheer on at road races! This year’s Open House featured lots of food, stretching exercises with Mike Toomey, a fun run lead by Rich Tomlins, and a raffle. The big raffle item this year was a $50.00 Gift Certificate from our friends at the New England Running Company. The Open House was a huge success and there are plenty of pictures over at photobucket to look at. Click here to view the Wicked Open House photo gallery.
