Wicked Masters Take 1st Place at Lynn Woods Relay!

Heading into the fourth straight day of rain, the Lynn Woods Website proudly posted a scrolling banner that read: ….Realy…Realy…Rain or Shine. So at 6 p.m. 69 teams started the 2010 Lynn Woods Relay!

Wicked posted 5 teams this year after bringing an incredible 12 teams to the 2009 edition of the relay. Many Wicked Runners have been battling various injuries which contributed to the low number of teams for 2010, but in the end everyone did a fantastic job and had a blast even if the conditions were a little sloppy!

For the second year in a row a Masters team from WRC took home first place in the Mens Masters Division! This years teams  had the following Wicked Runners: TR Ramsdell, Patrick Smith, Colin Maclay and John Ayers. The Wicked Masters ran a very strong combined time of 1:06:29. Congratulations guys!

Thank you to the following Wicked Runners who volunteered, thus making life a little easier for all the participants who ran: Dan Sullivan, Julie Arrison, Liz Touchette and Deb Touchette.

B.A.A. 1/2 Marathon Volunteer Oppurtunity

In our on going efforts to be close with the BAA (and someday qualify to get club numbers for the Boston Marathon), we are gathering a group to volunteer for the BAA Half Marathon on Sunday, October 10, 2010.

We need volunteers to sign up sooner rather than later so the BAA can count on us. If there are any questions please email John Mahoney.

The BAA has asked us to be their “Course Monitors.” The description for this job is:

Course Monitors
Team Captain: Josh Nemzer
Check-in Time: 6:30 a.m. – Noon
Course Monitors will be relied upon to provide the runners with both direction, as well as safety along the course. Course Monitors will meet at Playstead Park and be dispatched from there via bus. They should remain at their location until picked up again by bus.

I hope you will join us to help with this event. Feel free to ask your friends and family if they want to join us too. We will be happy to include them.

Here are the instructions for the BAA online volunteering – be sure to ask me if you have any questions. (If you do volunteer, be sure to send me your “online application confirmation number!”)

1)
Go to:
http://www.baa.org/Volunteering/HalfVolunteer.asp

2)
Select the “APPLY ONLINE” link.

3)
If you have volunteered for the BAA in the past, enter your volunteer ID. If you do not remember your ID, there is a link to have the BAA find it for you.

If you have not volunteered with the BAA before, you will have to enter your contact information.

Whatever you do, get your info entered.

4)
At the “Volunteer Registration” page, select
“Join: I want to join an existing Volunteer Group.”

5)
From the drop down menu, select the group: Wicked Running Club
The password is: go_wicked

6)
I suspect most of you will have no special requests at the “ADDITIONAL INFORMATION” page and can just click “next.”

7)
Check the box to acknowlwdge that you accept the terms in the “VOLUNTEER’S AGREEMENT, WAIVER, RELEASE AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT” and click “next” again.
8) Review your “PERSONAL INFORMATION” entries. If there are errors, click the “modify entries” link. Otherwise click the “submit as shown” link.

9)
You should soon receive an email from the BAA that gives you your “Volunteer Application Confirmation.” Please either forward this email to me or send me your “online application confirmation number.” I will need this to keep track of who is volunteering in our group and to coordinate race day efforts.

Congratulations to the Wicked Frosty Four Scholarship Recipients!

Susannah Barnes, Alfred Rossi and Michael Nickerson at yesterdays Wicked Summer Outing Party. Kristy Henrich was unable to attend as she was on her way to Standford University.

The Wicked Running Club held its annual Wicked Summer Outing Party at Camp Naumkeag over this past weekend. The event means much more to the Club than just a chance to have hot dogs and cold beers. It’s a chance to honor those who have been selected to receive the Wicked Frosty Four Scholarship. For 2010, there were 10 amazing applicants, and the Scholarship Committee had a difficult time picking the four who who recieve the award as all of the applicants are standout Student-Athletes.

Congratulations to Susannah Barnes, Alfred Rossi, Kristy Henrich and Michael Nickerson for being selected at this year’s recipents of the Wicked Frosty Four Scholarship! Along with the $1000.00, each recipient also received the first Wicked Frosty Four technical shirt and a one year membership to the Wicked Running Club.

A big thank you to Shannon O’Donnell for organizing the event. Peter Raymond was excellent on the grill serving up tasty hot dogs and hamburgers. Check out photos from the party on Facebook.

Yankee Homecoming 10M Results-Wicked Grand Prix Race

While not as hot as some years, the Annual Yankee Homecoming Races was still too warm for some runners. Others, like Dave Long who ran an outstanding 1:02:09 to lead Wicked in the 10 mile race seemed to rather enjoy the high temperature.  There were also many PR’s as well! Congrats to all who ran! Click here for results from the 10Miler.

This year the Yankee Homecoming 10M race was picked to be part of the Wicked Running Club Grand Prix race series. Below are the results of Wicked Runners who ran. You can check out where you are in the standings of the race series by checking out the Grand Prix Series page. Great job to those who ran the Yankee Homecoming 5K As well!

The next Grand Prix Series race is coming up very soon…like next Friday! Our next race will be the Derby Street Mile. More info about this summer time classic can be found at www.salemroadraces.com.
