The Wicked Women Team Results: Masters 1st Place, Open 2nd Place, Seniors 3rd Place. The Wicked Team Results Men: Masters 2nd Place and Seniors 2nd Place.

With the Womens Master’s Team placing 1st, they were given a check for $200 for their outstanding performance! In what represents the great nature of members from the Wicked Running Club, the team decided that the prize money should be donated back to The Lone Gull Charitable Trust.  The Lone Gull Charitable Trust was created and shall be operated to raise funds to donate to 501(c)(3) organizations which are dedicated to: research of causes, treatment and cures of cancer; administering to the needs of cancer victims; or the needs of the families of cancer victims (From the Lone Gull 10K website).

The race was was again organized by Wes Lassen who has done a great job developing this race into something really special. The tech shirts that pre-registered runners received looked awesome.

A catered breakfast was offered to all the registered runners after the race and it looked delicious.

Wicked takes on the challenging Nahant 30K [Updated]

Wicked Runners were not only racing in Beverly on Sunday morning. There was also a group at the Nahant 30K, which is billed as a great fall marathon prep race. With hills at every turn, runners abuse their quads and challenge their lungs over 18.64 miles.

The North Shore Striders who host the Nahant 30K did a  great job with the reace this year. The course was well marked and there were plenty of water/Gatorade for all the runners.

If there are any Wicked Runners missing from the results please email Tim Short.

9th Annual International Race for Research

The 9th Annual International Race for Research had what could be described as near perfect weather for runners. The race is hosted by the Progeria Research Foundation, and Peabody is it’s hometown!

Runners take off at the start of the 9th Annual International Race for Research.

A little about the race organizer: In the summer of 1998, Dr. Leslie Gordon andDr. Scott Berns found out that their son Sam, who was then 22 months old, had been diagnosed with Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome (“Progeria”), commonly referred to as a “premature aging” syndrome. It quickly became apparent to Sam’s parents that there was an enormous lack of medical information and resources dedicated to Progeria. They recognized that there was no place for these children to go for medical help, no place for parents or doctors to turn for information, and no source of funding for researchers who wanted to do Progeria research. The lack of information available to families, combined with the lack of research and research-funding opportunities inspired Sam’s family, together with their friends and colleagues, to launch The Progeria Research Foundation, Inc. (“PRF”), the only non-profit organization in the world dedicated to Progeria research. More about information about PRF can be found at www.progeriaresearch.org.

As for the race, 222 runners finished the 5k course which is pretty fast and flat with only one or two hills. Wicked Runners were out in force and there were some great race results! Jason Barnes took home 3rd place over all, while Billy Jackson ran a PR.

Wicked Also picked up several age group awards! PRF does a really nice job with this race and if you have never raced it before you should consider running the 10 Annual International Race for Research next September!
