Weekend Race Review 10/23-10/24

Whether it was running on a trail to reach Stone Tower or trotting through the Witch City with over 500 (some in costumes!) other runners,  members of the Wicked Running Club made their presence known at area races this past weekend.

10th Annual Witch City 5K

Runners take to the streets in the 10th Annual Witch City 5K. Dave Long (235), John Ayers (520) and TR Ramsdell (tall guy with sun glasses) are seen leading the pack early on.

The Baystate Marathon & Lowell Sun Half Marathon weren’t the only races to take place this past weekend. Wicked Runners took part in a few other great events from around the area. Congrats to Wicked Runner and Race Director of the 1st Annual Fall Frolic 5K & Fun Run, Shari Hewson! The race was a smashing success with 315 runners finishing the race. I know many runners who can’t wait for the 2nd Annual Fall Frolic 5K next October!

Baystate Marathon and Lowell Sun Half Marathon

What a difference a year makes! Runners who participated in this years Baystate Marathon and Lowell Sun Half Marathon were greeted with an abundance of sunshine and cool temperatures at the start of the race. During the race it reached into the 60′s but was still very comfortable. For those who ran last year, I’m sure you all have memories of running in the cold rain and for some off us a little snow as well.

There was plenty of water/Gatorade on the course for all runners and a GU station for the marathon near miles 7/17 made sure that everyone had plenty of fuel for the race. Runners were treated to soup, fruit, chips and other good stuff when they reached finished.

Wicked was well represented in both the Marathon and Half Marathon this year as both distances were in the Wicked Grand Prix race series. There were a few PR’s, a couple of first timers to the half marathon distance and there were some Wicked Runners who just gave it their all to get to the finish line. Some ended their runs with smiles and others wondered if they will even run a marathon again. Whether you were in the Half or the Marathon, great job to every Wicked Runner who ran!

A very big congratulations to our very own Gail Gordon who qualified for the Boston Marathon and was able to register yesterday morning with an assist from Dan Barrett.

Tim Clarke Competes In The 2010 Ironman Championships in Hawaii

It looks like Wicked Runner Tim Clarke wins for longest distance traveled to a race over this past weekend. This was no ordinary race though, Tim participated in the 2010 Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii. Tim swam 2.4 miles, biked 112 miles and then finished it off with a 26.2 (that’s right, a marathon!) run.  This amazing accomplishment highlights Tim’s dedication to the world of triathlons and his level of fitness.

Wicked Invades Chicago!

While not as blistering hot as the 2007 edition, it was still a very hot day for the Wicked Runners who participated in the 2010 Chicago Marathon held on 10-10-10.
