It seems like the line of members from the Wicked Running Club cheering on finishers at the April Fool’s Four Miler race on Saturday made a very good impression on one runner!
“On behalf of the many “slower” runners at the April Fools Race on Saturday, I thank you all. You must be proud to surround yourself with “class act” athletes would stay at the course, long after they had completed their own race, to cheer on those who needed the encouragement. I was having a tough time on Saturday, still a new runner, still learning HOW to run and still getting in shape. The cheering that your club provided as I rounded the last corner gave me the strength to finish strong. Thank you to the Wicked Running Club, I am forever grateful!” – Dave Randall, Danvers
Thanks Dave for the kind words! Go Wicked!

The Olde Salem Greens 5K was a smashing success as 83 members competed in the first race of our 2011 series! David Long led a long line of Wicked finishers in 3rd place overall and first 30-39 in 18:46. Karra Cheever was the first female finisher in the entire event and ran 22:03. Doug Bollen and his team of volunteers put on an outstanding “old school” race. Everyone who finished has survived the toughest course in the series. Our next race, the April’s Fools 4 miler is a flat course with an outstanding bar experience immediately following the race.
The results of the series follow. I have divided the results into three sections. The first section is a summary of all the finishers with their individual and team series points. The second area divides the results by sex and age categories. The first three finishers in each category will receive an award at the Winter Party in 2012. The last section introduces the team results. Please remember that every finisher gets 10 points for every race run in the series, regardless of finishing time.
Please e-mail any corrections to me at welshhammer@gmail.com. The corrections will appear in the next series results. I hope to see everyone at our next series race in Salisbury at the Winner Circle Bar on Saturday, March 26th at 11 a.m. Go Wicked!!

SALEM — Darla Johnson of Beverly has had cervical cancer in recent years, but that didn’t slow her down. She’s had a race to run — in fact, six of them.
Johnson, 48, ranks among some 400 motivated runners who’ve picked up their pace to train year-round for the four-year-old Salem Race Series. The six individual races have attracted more entrants every year — about 4,800 in 2010 — though only about 150 earn the status-symbol jacket that says they completed all six in one year.
