Wicked on Front Page of New England Runner

Stop the press! Have you seen the July/August issue of New England Runner Magazine? In the middle of a very strong looking pack of runners you will spot Wicked Runner John Ayers who is proudly wearing the colors of Wicked!

To the knowledge of our website staff, we believe this is the first time a Wicked Runner has graced the cover of NE Runner Magazine. Wicked has been mentioned numerous times in the Club Notes section though. Back in the May/June issue our brand new race – Wicked Presents Miles Over the Moon was talked about in the Club Notes section.

John is also doing very well in the New England Runner Pub Series. As of June 27, John is in 6th place with 153 points in the Open Men Division and 4th place with 20 points Men Masters 40-49 division. Congrats John!

Runners Take the Battle to Cancer

The 2nd Annual North Shore Cancer RUN took off from Salem Willows with over 500 runners registering for this year’s race. With the sun warming up temperatures right before the start of the race, it didn’t seem to bother Dr. Alexy Kochowiec from NSMC as he torched the 3.1 mile course in 16:57. MaryKate Surette lead all females with a super fast time of 20:52. For full results please visit www.coolrunning.com.

The Wicked Running Club partners with the North Shore Medical Center on Cancer RUN which is held on the same morning as the North Shore Cancer WALK. The WALK celebrated it’s 21st year and was another huge success.

Rose Fisher & Meg Wright of NSMC praised the hard work of the RUN committee and talked about what the Wicked Running Club means to the RUN. “Overall, the race was a huge success, having over 500 runners exceeded our expectations for a second year run. It was amazing to see the amount of first time runners who were participating in honor or in memory of someone with cancer. Our partnership with the Salem Wicked Running Club is a natural fit and we are happy that everyone on the RUN committee works so hard to promote the event and make it a success. The Wicked Running Club is an asset to Salem and we could not have had such an amazing event without the talent of volunteers from this group. Thank you!”

Wicked Running Club’s own Michele Campbell who was the Co-Race Director for the RUN was thrilled with the turn out. “What I loved most about being a part of the North Shore Cancer RUN was seeing the excitement and camaraderie of the volunteers and participants working together for an important cause. It was also fantastic that we had an increase in RUN registrations over last year.”

Wicked Announces Scholarship Winners

The Wicked Running Club is pleased to announce that Scott O’Neil, Courtney Maher, Saleena Glowik and Dominic Barceleau have been selected as this year’s Wicked Frosty Four Scholarship recipients. Each Student-Athlete will receive a $1250.00 check along with a one year membership with the Wicked Running Club.

Thanks to generous race sponsors like Tavern in the Square and North Shore Medical Center, along with the many runners who participated in this year’s Wicked Frosty Four,  the Wicked Running Club was able to increase the overall amount given to the scholarship winners from last year. This year, Wicked will give 4 scholarship totaling $5000.00. Portion of the race proceeds from the Wicked Frosty Four go to fund the yearly scholarship.

A big thank you to the Scholarship Committee from the Wicked Running Club. There were over 10 applicants this year for the Wicked Frosty Four Scholarship and while all were certainly worthy, only a select 4 made the cut. The Scholarship Committee did a wonderful job this year and they deserve a lot of credit for volunteering their time and energy in selecting the Wicked Frosty Four Scholarship winners.

Save the date for the 5th Annual Wicked Frosty Four – January 1, 2012!
