51st Annual Yankee Homecoming Road Races

If there is one race on the North Shore that screams “summer time classic” it has to be the Yankee Homecoming Road Races. Both the 5K and 10M are held on a Tuesday night and one can usually expect the weather to be hazy, hot and very humid.

The 51st edition of this race saw 1,759 runners finish the 5K while the 10 Miler had 1,253 runners cross the finish line. Just over 3,000 runners combine for both races is a decent showing for a race that takes place at 6PM early in the work week. Right before the start of both races there was quick shower,  but it didn’t really cool things off too much.  As runners started it was warm, but not to bad.

Wicked selected the 10 Miler has part of the this year’s club Grand Prix Series and over 40 Wicked Runners made the trip up route 95.  We also had representation in the 5K.

Leading the way for the guys, Dave Long with a very impressive 103:59. Annie Rose Willis ran strong for the ladies, finishing in 1:13: 27.

Below are the results from both races. If you do not see your name and you did run the 5K or 10M,  please send an email to Tim Short and he will update the results. Full Grand Prix results will be coming out in the next few days so check back here real soon!

Wicked launches new program!

At the annual Wicked Summer Outing, the Wicked Running Club unveiled a brand new program that has been in the works for the past year. Some clubs give out Lifetime memberships to thier members who have gone above and beyond in their service and detication. WRC has the Wicked Ambassador Award!

Member-At-Large TR Ramsdell spoke about the Wicked Ambassador Award and what qualifies a member to be eligible to recieve this award. The five members who were selected this year have truly made a difference and are certainly a big reason why Wicked is an amazing running club.

This year’s winners of the Wicked Ambassador award are: Tim Clarke, Beth O’Grady, John Mahoney, Tim Short and Team Touchette (Deb Touchette, Liz Touchette-Sullivan and Steve Touchette). They join Doug Bollen, Jen Lincoln and Mike Toomey who have also earned lifetime memberships.

In deciding what the criteria would be for the Wicked Ambassador award – these are the bullet points the Board of Directors of the Wicked Running Club have decieded that will be used when a member becomes eligible after 5 years of being an active Club member:

  • There is a limit on how many Wicked Ambassador awards are given per year – up to 5/year
  • Volunteering at races – suggested by Board – 3 races/year
  • Participation in Relays – suggested by Board – 2 relays/year
  • Percentage of participation in Grand Prix Scheduled Races – suggested by Board of 60% of these races should be completed
  • Participation at Board meetings, various planning race committees and helping out at various Club functions
  • Donating food or supplies for events
  • Sponsorship and Recruitment of Raffle Items for Wicked’s own races – Wicked Frosty Four Wicked Kidz 1/2 Mile & 1 Mile Race, North Shore Cancer RUN or Wicked Presents Miles Over the Moon.

The Wicked Running Club has also set up a special page on www.wickedrunningclub.com to view the criteria and list the Wicked Ambassador inductees. The Board of Directors hopes that as more members are given this award, other members will want to step up and give back to their club. There is only one question, Do you have what it takes to be a Wicked Ambassador?
