Grand Prix Results – Fall Frolic

By Rich Tabbut

Co-Grand Prix Coordinator

Race Director Shari Hewson had fine weather and a nice crowd of Wicked members at the 2nd Annual Fall Frolic 5K in Beverly on October 16th. It is the same course as the Beverly Homecoming Race and was chip timed by North Shore Timing. The times were fast and the tech shirts were black and orange to represent Beverly’s elementary schools

A parade of Wicked runners took prizes in the race led by overall winner John Ayers in 17:04 Other medal winners included Wendi Marciano (1st 16-19), Billy Jackson (2nd 20-29), Chris Nolin (2nd 30-39), Annie Rose Willis (1st 30-39). Brad Gates (1st 40-49), Mickel McClish (3rd 40-49), Rick Marciano (1st 50-59), Hammer (2nd 50-59), Beth O’Grady (1st 50-59), and Marie Gesnaldo (3rd 60-69). Quite a list, sorry if I missed anyone!

Special recognition goes to our Ironmen and Ironwomen who have run every race (10) in the series so far:  Billy Jackson, Chris Nolin, Hammer, Rick Marciano, Jay Carraro, and Amber Woolfenden.

The Cougars have taken over the lead in the team competition with 580 points, followed closely by the Cheetahs (560 pts) and the Jaguars (550 pts). The top 3 spots in the male individual series go to Billy Jackson, Chris Nolan, and myself. Female honors go to Wendi Marciano, Annie Rose Willis, and Catalina Dominick.  Division races are very close in the Female Masters (Debbie Shahidi leads Shari Hewson by 3 points) and the Male Masters (Aaron Toleos leads Don Gallucci by 2 points).

The last two races in the series are approaching fast and will determine our prizes for the year. Of course, everyone who participates in the series is a winner in my book! The largest race on the North Shore and last race in the Salem Road Race series, the Wild Turkey 5 Miler on Thanksgiving Day is our next Grand Prix Event. The last race in the series is the Mill City Relay on December 4th. Since we have done everything humanly possible to tell you how great Mill Cities is and why you should run it, I won’t rehash that here. As of press time, we have just enough runners signed up for 7 teams and are looking for many more. The relay offers 50 points for the individual series and 20 points for the team series.

Please e-mail any corrections to me at welshhammer@gmail.com. The corrections will appear in the final series results. For the complete schedule of Grand Prix races please visit the Wicked Grand Prix page.

Wicked gives back to local High School

The Wicked Running Club is know for it’s very friendly members, but we also have a very big heart! Thanks to the success of our 1st Annual Miles Over the Moon race, we were able to donate some fantastic equipment to the Salem High School XC team.

At the recent monthly Board meeting held at the Salem Senior Center, the Salem High XC coach and captains attended to accept the donation. At the request of the coach,  Wicked presented the XC team with 2 prostretchs and 2 balance/ wobble boards — a circular and a square one to strengthen the runners shins and legs.

Front Row:Alison Phelan, Adrian Beato, Khrisna Dasha Corpuz, Brandi Lavoie, Evan Le and Shari Hewson. Back Row: Steph Hagyard, Amber Woolfenden, Rich Tabbut, TR Ramsdell and Melissa Jaynes.

Both items will help the Salem High XC team stay strong and flexible through the season as they do battle with the other teams in their conference.
