Boston Marathon Interview
Wicked Runner: Becky Fiore
How long have you been running, when/why did you start?
I ran on the track team in high school, took a 10 year break from running and l started up again last July. I started running again because my friend Tanya convinced me to do the Toomey clinic. I was hooked after that.
Is there something about the Boston Marathon that makes it special to you? Why run this Marathon?
I watch Boston almost every year and I’m always in awe of the runners and their display of sportsmanship. I was always curious what it would be like so now I’m going to satisfy my curiosity.
How many Boston marathons have you done? Or will this be your first?
This will be my first Boston marathon but my second marathon.
Do you have any special diet the week prior to the marathon?
Ha ha ha. I love food too much to diet. I’ve attempted to each healthy this week but it’s not working out so well. I’m partial to pizza, hot dogs carrot cake and sour patch kids. Yum!
Do you follow any specific running program to prepare for a Marathon?
Ask Maria, she was my running program. I’m not so good with structure so I really relied on Maria to tell me what I should be doing. If it doesn’t work I can just blame her!!! J
What’s your favorite training run while training for a Marathon? I don’t think I have a favorite training run. I enjoy running the most when I have friends to keep me company. I’ve met some wonderful people through the Toomey Clinic and Wicked that have really inspired me. Ya ya Sistahs!!
What is your way to approach running a Marathon? I.e., slow at first, negative splits?
I’m not sure I have an approach yet. I want take in the scenery and make it to the finish line in one piece. Is that an approach?
Do you bring your own nutrition for the Marathon? Electrolytes, Gels, Bars?
I’ll have a baggie of sport beans with me.
Are you shooting for a specific time at Boston or are you running to enjoy the sights and sounds?
I really just want to have fun but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a goal time in mind. It’s a secret though.
Do you run with an MP3 player? Have any tunes that get you over the wall or the rough points in the Marathon?
I always bring my iPod but I never actually turn it on. I don’t think I’ll bring it with me on Monday. I’d rather listen to the crowd.
Anything else you would like to add??
I can’t wait to see Wicked at mile 17 and to cross the finish line and get licks from my Brody pup! He haw he haw. Good luck everyone!
