Big Game James in Wisconsin and Wicked takes on Marcia Lemkin 5K

While Saturday might have been a washout in Massachusetts, conditions were just right for James DeLuca to crush the Madison Mini Marathon course with a PR of 1:23:21. James posting on Facebook had this to say about his race performance; “Probably would have had more of a kick at the end if I hadn’t done the first 10 miles at 3sec/mile faster than my 5 mile PR pace..” Great job James!

Closer to home, a pack of Wicked Runners headed up to Lowell to take part in the 7th Annual Marcia Lemkin 5K. The race benefits lung cancer research, treatment, and prevention programs at Brigham And Women’s Hospital. For more information please check out the Marcia Lemkin Lung Cancer Foundation website. There were some great highlights from Wicked. Annie Rose Willis was the first in the 20-29 age group with a 19:38, T.R. Ramsdell picked up a PR with a 20:23 and Deb Touchette picked up a nice 1st place win in the 50-59 age group with a 23:01! Great job to everyone who raced!! Go Wicked!

Wicked Running Club In The News!

Story from The Daily Item of Lynn that appeared in the Thursday August 27th, 2009 edtion. Wicked was mentioned a few times for it’s great performances! Go Wicked!!

Lynn Woods Relay Race draws the crowds

The 40th annual Lynn Woods 10-mile relay race was held Wednesday at the Great Woods Road entrance to the woods. The event raises money to combat multiple sclerosis. The event featured 98 teams, the most ever.

The following are the winners: men’s open, GBTC Pumas – Dan Smith, Junyung Pak, Ryan Eckel and Kevin Somers won with a combined time of 53:33. In second place was Wicked Fast, which includes Doug Chick, David Long, Chris Osterlin  and Mike Toomey* (*Mike was left out of the Lynn Item story, but deserves credit for being on the team!).

In the women’s open, GBTC-Fast Girls won with a 67:10. The team featured Annie Morgan, Allison McCabe, Kim Eckle and Scarlett Graham.

In the high school boys division, the Three Amigos and Tito took top honors with Dave Allen, Nick Poles, Brian Collins and Juan Soto. They ran a time of 63:10. The second-place team, Sin City Boyz, featured Chris Birotte, Jesse Birotte, Jhonathan Rijo and Camy Ducasse. Their time was 65:30.

In the girls high school race, Kama won with a time of 80 minutes. The runners were Millie Champman, Alex Henry, Alie Monoco and Katie Smith. The masters’ men’s division was won by Wicked Studs. That team included T.R. Ramsdell, Tim Clarke, Patrick Smith and Danny Leadvaro.

In the masters’ women’s race, GAC Broomashers won in 79:13. The team included Kathleen Walsh, Lori Tayas, Sandy Capuano and Jerri Pratt. The senior women’s race was won by NSS Decades of more Decadence, which includes Joan Dailey, Bonnie Hallinan, Deb Jackson and Jayne Sexton. The second-place team, GAC Lady Luck, featured Jean Barry, Lois Alexander, Deb Cole and Melody Mancinelli. Their time was 87.34.

In the senior men’s division, Wicked Senile won it with Danny Chick, Steve Tourchette, Bill Morse and Bruce Campbell doing the work (69:58),

In the veterans division, Roger Perham, Joe Giannone, Mario Fagone and George Geis combined for a time of 85:34. That team is called the NSS Gold Streaks.

In the coed division, Hurricane Floyd won (64:46) with Taylor Krajewski, Christine Tafone, Fabian Mejia and Israel Rodriguez.

Lynn Woods Relay

As predicted Wicked had a strong presence out on the trails for the Annual Lynn Woods Relay. With 12 teams entered there was a sea of red shirts everywhere you looked!

And while the weather was hot and humid, that didn’t stop members of Wicked from running some really fast times. One of the best performances came from Chris Osterlin who started his sprint to the finish line after hitting the pavement, saw that he had one more person to catch and turned on the afterburners. Chris who has run a sub 2 minute 800 on the track caught up and passed the other runner with room to spare before the finish line.

Spreading good will to all Wicked Runners, Doug Bollen was seen handing out temp Wicked Kidz tattoos.  We may need to get some standard Wicked Cat tattoos for all the other races coming up.

Wicked also picked up some hardware as well. Wicked Fast (2nd in men open) and Wicked Left Overs (5th in men open) both placed in the top 5 overall. While the Wicked Studs (Masters)  and Wicked Senile (Seniors) teams both captured 1st place in the respective divisions.

Results of each Wicked team can be found after the break below. If you’ve been to the Lynn Woods Relay website this morning, you will notice that Bill mentions that some splits maybe questionable. If there are any changes in the splits for any of the Wicked Runners listed below,  updates to this site will be done ASAP. Pictures will be coming soon as well.  Congrats to not only the teams that took home hardware, but to everyone else as well!  GO WICKED!!

Derby Street Mile

What a night for a 1-mile race!! The 2009 Derby Street Mile took place last Friday night and it was the largest turn out to date for this race. New this year was the addition of a family race.  Those who ran the Family Race were given a finishers medal. In the competitive race, there were tons of great performances by lots of Wicked Runners. Leading the way for the men was Doug Chick who finished in a blazing time of 4:34 to capture 2nd place overall. Annie Rose Willis lit up the course with a time of 5:34, placing 2nd in the 20-29 age group.

Wicked was well represented with over 50 runners participating in the race. Our very own Doug Bollen was race director and put on another great race for the City of Salem. A big thanks to the following Wicked Runners who volunteered or helped out in some way to make this race awesome; John Mahoney, Dennis Gray, Marisa Wagnor, Alison Phelan, Darla Johnson, Beth O’Grady, Bruce Campbell, Karen Giroux, Rachel Hunt, Eileen Dunn, Billy Shea.

Below is the results for the competitive and family races. Not only was Derby part of the Salem Park & Rec Race Series, but it was also a Wicked Grand Prix race as well. Grand Prix results will be available soon!

“8 for 8” at the Annual Moose on the Loose 10 Trail Race

By Alison Phelan

On Day 8 of this August heatwave, 8 Wicked Runners decided to make the trek to the 7th Annual Moose on the Loose 10-Mile Trail Race & Relay in Mine Falls Park, Nashua, NH.  With the temps hovering in the low 90s, the Wicked 8 decided they would enjoy themselves as much as possible in the 2.5m loop woods’ course that laid ahead of them.  Over 388 runners registered for this event, which was split up between a 10m race and 2 and 4-person relay teams.

Race1

I’m happy to report that the results were “hot and sunny”.  All Wicked 8 finished in great times.  Plus, our only 2-person relay team, Kerry Phelan and Kinnon Church aka Team Phelan-Church ran a PR and finished in a combined time of 1:13:26, good enough to finish 7th place in the 2-person relay teams event.  They were also one of the younger teams!  Despite the high temps and some lack of cups at the last water stop, the day was a success for all!  Go Wicked!

Swimsuit Classic in Wakefield

By James DeLuca

It was a hot Sunday morning; the sort of morning that just begs for you to trade your running shoes for a bathing suit and find the nearest piece of sand to lie down on for a good four hours…hopefully with a steady supply of frozen drinks. In other words it was a perfect day for the Mystic Runners’ Swimsuit Classis in Wakefield. Six Wicked Runners joined a crowd of 170 runners who braved the heat to and came home with 4 towels from Age Group victories. Notable was Billy Prentiss’ return to the winner’s circle on his way back from surgery last fall.

Despite the blazing sun and the suffocating humidity both Batman and Robin were seen out on the course. The two masked heroes took off with superhuman speed at the start of the race and the youthful Robin managed to hold on for 5th place overall but in his black cape and suit Batman faded back to 63rd place.

Swimsuit 5k

T.R. Ramsdell, James DeLuca and new Wicked Runner Aaron Toleos. Last guy is Kevin Counihan who is a member of the North Shore Striders and runs the D5K.

As they usually do, the Mystics came through with a well organized race with plenty of post-race food, good raffle prizes and a unique bag (last year a drawstring bag for sprint spikes, this year a canvas duffle bag) rather than the ubiquitous white cotton T. All in all, high marks to Mystics for a good race and congratulations to Wicked for a great showing all around and cleaning up at the awards ceremony; this is a race to keep on your calendar.
