Lake Winnipesaukee Relay

LWR

Members of the Wicked Running Club before the big relay!

A fun time was had by all at the 21st Annual Lake Winnipesaukee Relay over this past weekend. LWR is held annualy in September and takes runners in a counter clockwise loop around the the largest lake in New England. The race is 65.1 miles long and split up into 8 legs.

Each leg varies in milage, but what is certain is that you will find at least one hill, and maybe more depending on the leg you pick. Although the hills are challenging you will be rewarded with awesome views of the lake and the early fall foliage.

Wicked did very well finishing in a time of 8:40:29 which placed the team in 49th place out of 96 teams. While everyone on the team did a fantastic job, it was Colin Doherty who stepped it up another level and ran not only leg 7 but also leg 8! For those who haven’t had a chance to run the LWR before, leg 8 features some of the more challenging hills in the relay. The most memorable hill comes at the very end. After enjoying a nice down hill, runners come to an intersection and start their final climb to the finish. After being punished by the previous hills,  Colin made his way up the final hill to the finish  line giving it everything that he had and came through with a great run!

If you are interested in finding out more about LWR check out http://www.northmedfordclub.org/winni/2009_winni_home.htm.

“Running the Lake Winnipesaukee Relay was great! This is a unique race, the legs are interesting and challenging, and the location is gorgeous. I really enjoyed the challenge of the course, the support of my team, and the chance to support my teammates while they ran their route. I am looking forward to running again next year!”

-John Mohoney

“This was my fourth year running the Lake Winnipesaukee Relay and it gets better each year! This year I ran legs 5 and 6 and got in a sweet 17.2 mile run. One reason why I love doing this relay each year is because I get to spend the entire day with members of the Wicked Running, which in my honest opinion is the best running club in the entire country! It’s amazing how supportive each team member is.  Can’t wait to run it again next year!”

Lone Gull 10K-Wicked Grand Prix Race

The weather couldn’t have been any better for the Third Annual Lone Gull 10K in Gloucester. Our good friend from the New England Running Company, Wes Lassen proved to be an excellent Race Director once again. Wes started the race just after 9:00 a.m. with close to 800 runners on the starting line. Nike was on hand with some cool swag and there was a tasty breakfast to be had by all the runners at the end of the race. The Long Sleeve Nike Dri-Fit shirt that pre-registered runners received was very sharp. Make sure you sign up early for this race next year!

Below are the results of the Wicked Runners who came out to race. Great job everyone! Grand Prix Results will be updated later on this week and will appear in Friday’s Wicked Weekly Update. Photos can be found at jimrhoades.com and photobucket.com

Lynn Woods Relay

As predicted Wicked had a strong presence out on the trails for the Annual Lynn Woods Relay. With 12 teams entered there was a sea of red shirts everywhere you looked!

And while the weather was hot and humid, that didn’t stop members of Wicked from running some really fast times. One of the best performances came from Chris Osterlin who started his sprint to the finish line after hitting the pavement, saw that he had one more person to catch and turned on the afterburners. Chris who has run a sub 2 minute 800 on the track caught up and passed the other runner with room to spare before the finish line.

Spreading good will to all Wicked Runners, Doug Bollen was seen handing out temp Wicked Kidz tattoos.  We may need to get some standard Wicked Cat tattoos for all the other races coming up.

Wicked also picked up some hardware as well. Wicked Fast (2nd in men open) and Wicked Left Overs (5th in men open) both placed in the top 5 overall. While the Wicked Studs (Masters)  and Wicked Senile (Seniors) teams both captured 1st place in the respective divisions.

Results of each Wicked team can be found after the break below. If you’ve been to the Lynn Woods Relay website this morning, you will notice that Bill mentions that some splits maybe questionable. If there are any changes in the splits for any of the Wicked Runners listed below,  updates to this site will be done ASAP. Pictures will be coming soon as well.  Congrats to not only the teams that took home hardware, but to everyone else as well!  GO WICKED!!

Derby Street Mile

What a night for a 1-mile race!! The 2009 Derby Street Mile took place last Friday night and it was the largest turn out to date for this race. New this year was the addition of a family race.  Those who ran the Family Race were given a finishers medal. In the competitive race, there were tons of great performances by lots of Wicked Runners. Leading the way for the men was Doug Chick who finished in a blazing time of 4:34 to capture 2nd place overall. Annie Rose Willis lit up the course with a time of 5:34, placing 2nd in the 20-29 age group.

Wicked was well represented with over 50 runners participating in the race. Our very own Doug Bollen was race director and put on another great race for the City of Salem. A big thanks to the following Wicked Runners who volunteered or helped out in some way to make this race awesome; John Mahoney, Dennis Gray, Marisa Wagnor, Alison Phelan, Darla Johnson, Beth O’Grady, Bruce Campbell, Karen Giroux, Rachel Hunt, Eileen Dunn, Billy Shea.

Below is the results for the competitive and family races. Not only was Derby part of the Salem Park & Rec Race Series, but it was also a Wicked Grand Prix race as well. Grand Prix results will be available soon!

2009 Yankee Homecoming 5K/10M Road Race

yankee-logo

Once again the weather for the Yankee Homecoming Road Race was hot and humid, though not as bad as previous years it still provided a decent challenge to the nearly three thousand runners who participated in either the 5K or 10M last night.

Wicked had a strong showing both in the 5K and 10M.  Just about 30 Wicked Runners headed up to Newburport to take on this classic road race, which is part of the Wicked Grand Prix Race Series. Great job to everyone who ran!!
