Upcoming Races

From Tim Short

8th Annual International Race for Research on September 12th, 2009 at 9 am in Peabody, MA. Your club has been well represented in past years and we hope you will be able to participate once again this year.

As you know, this is a benefit 5K road race and 2-mile fun run/walk to help find the cure for Progeria, a fatal, “premature aging” syndrome that afflicts children. We are nearing the end of our first ever progeria drug trial at Children’s Hospital, potentially offering great hope to these beautiful children with Progeria. We need your support more than ever as we move forward in our quest to find a cure for this devastating disease.

We had over 250 participants last year and hope to make this year our best ever! We’d appreciate your putting our race event on your club calendar and “talking it up” amongst your members. I would be happy to send you some race applications in advance to make in-person registration easier for your members. We also have online registration again this year at www.firstgiving.com/prf

“Running With the Wolves 10K” The Highland City Striders, a new Massachusetts running club based out of Hudson/Marlborough, will be hosting it’s first annual “Running With the Wolves 10K” race on Wednesday, August 5th. We would greatly appreciate your help spreading the word about this race by either providing the link below to your runners or posting the link on your website. This race would be convenient to anyone who works in the Framingham area. http://www.freewebs.com/hcstriders/runningwithwolves10k.htm

We are pleased to announce that registration for this year’s 69th Ollie Road Race has begun and our website for the 2009 race is up and running at www.ollieroadrace.org.

2009 Ollie Road Race. Our new online registration will allow you to register runners other than yourself. You can download the paper application and mail multiple applications to the address below. Or you can download and complete our bulk registration form. The bulk registration form can be mailed to the address below or emailed to registration@ollieroadrace.org.

If you submit 5 or more club entries together by August 25th, there will be a $3 discount (24.00 Per Particpant) on each entry. Please remember that this pre-registration offer ends on August 25th, applications received after this date will not be considered for this offer.

Ollie Road Race
136 H Street
South Boston, MA 02127

This year’s race will take place the second weekend in September.

5 Mile Run/2 Mile Walk: Saturday, September 12, 10am
Bank of America Pavilion, 290 Northern Ave., Boston, MA 02210

Youth Races and Block Party: Sunday, September 13, 9am
South Boston Neighborhood House, 136 H St., South Boston, MA 02127

As many of you know, the Ollie Road Race is a critical fundraiser for the South Boston Neighborhood House. Since 1901, the South Boston Neighborhood House has been helping individuals and families become self-sufficient and prosper in society. In these challenging economic times, your support is needed more than ever and will ensure that the Neighborhood House can continue these efforts. Please encourage your team to accept the Run For The Ollie – Race To The Finish challenge to raise funds for this worthy cause.

In the past, we’ve had as many as 1700 runners. In order for the South Boston Neighborhood house to continue to operate future races we will need the broad based fundraising support of our participants. An increased focus on fundraising is critical to the long-term sustainability of the Ollie Road Race. Last year, 15 runners/walkers participated in the “Run for the Ollie” challenge and raised $5437.25, imagine what 100 participants could accomplish? Or 1000? If 200 runners each raise $100 (do you have 10 friends that would each support your run with $10?), they could raise $20,000 for the South Boston Neighborhood House! It’s that simple.

Raise $$$ + Run & Enjoy Race = Real Results.

Click here for more information on how to participate and our incentive packages:

http://www.ollieroadrace.org/runfortheollie.html

Help us continue a Boston running tradition. Take our CHALLENGE and raise funds for the programs at the South Boston Neighborhood House. And help ensure that the Ollie Road Race is held for years to come.
