Getting Ready for the Snowshoe Classic

A few Wicked Runners took advantage of the season’s first major snow storm  to get a practice run in before the 1st Olde Salem Greens Snowshoe Classic coming up on January 9th. Check out the hardy bunch in the pictures below who ran through Lynn Woods yesterday. If you are interested in racing the Snowshoe Classic in a few weeks click here  to download the application or head over to active.com to sign up online.

“No Rest for the Wicked”-New Club Run

wicked-cat2

Wicked is now offering another Club organized run! For those who are interested, the “No Rest for the Wicked” (“NRFTW”) meets every Thursday at 6:45p.m. at the Salem Common entrance by the Hawthorne Hotel. Just like any other Club run, it will be held “rain or shine,” provided there are no municipal/governmental storm warnings in effect requesting people to stay at home.

The route (map of route) is about 3.2 miles, starting at the Salem Common, going along Little Hawthorne Blvd, a left on Derby, partway into Juniper Point, a left on Lowell, continuing through the Willows parking lot area, left on Memorial (which becomes Essex Street Eventually), left on Little Hawthorne Blvd, and finishing at the corner of Little Hawthorne Blvd and Derby Street by the Immaculate Conception parking lot.

After the run those interested meet at the nearby Engine House Pizza restaurant for an inexpensive supper.

Mia Poppe, who has been organizing this run for the past couple of weeks has also created a facebook page, check it out when you get a chance!

Run to the Beach 30k

In photo back row: Bruce Campbell, Sally Holtzman, Bill Shea, Karen Girous, Becky Fiore. Front L to R: Alison Phelan, Beth O’Grady and Melissa Jaynes. Melissa is training for the Vermont City Marathon, and the rest of the crew is preparing for Boston.

9 Wicked Running members took part in the “Run to the Beach 30k” on Sunday, March 15. This FREE organized training run attracted 100 runners and spanned from North Andover to Salisbury. It was a nice treat to be handed water every 5 miles or so, and although the course was hilly, it was balanced by beautiful early spring weather.

At the end of the day, no one had any complaints and everyone was happy with their finish time. The best part was running back to the car for a tailgate party of homemade cookies, salty snacks and ice cold water. It was a wicked good team effort!

Wicked Weekly Run

Wicked Weekly Run

Great group of Wicked Runners showed up today to run in the warm weather. A sure sign of spring

as we see our numbers growing for our Saturday runs at Forest River Park. Not pictured is Tim Short who took the picture. Please join us at 8am each Saturday morning.

Boston Marathon Training Run, Part I

Last year Wicked member Tim Clarke came up with a brilliant idea of breaking up the Boston Marathon into chunks so that people could prepare themselves for the long Journey from Hopkinton to Boston.  Once again, Tim lead a small band of Wicked Runners down to Hopkinton, MA over the weekend to run the first 8 miles of the Boston Marathon. The weather was great, albeit a tad windy. Colin Maclay and Rachel Hunt who also made the trip down, brought some delicious post run cookies! Our tour Guide Tim Clarke, provided the troops with Gatorade and some outstanding trail mix as well. Below are a few pictures for your view pleasure!
