On Sunday morning, June 24, 2012, hundreds of runners will join together with family members, colleagues and survivors for the 3rd annual North Shore Cancer RUN. The Cancer RUN is a partnership race between the North Shore Medical Center and the Wicked Running Club.
We are excited about a few new changes taking place with this year’s Cancer RUN! The new start time of the RUN will now be 7:30 am. The Cancer RUN has been selected as a Road Runners Club of America State Championship race and the course is now USATF certified.
The 5K (3.1 mile) run follows a modified WALK course and is fast and flat, ensuring a great time of all runners. The RUN winds through historic Salem, featuring an array of entertainers that lend a festive air to this profound community event. We encourage you to become part of this annual celebration of the life, hope and courage of all those who have been touched by this disease.

Congratulations to members of Team Wicked Nation -for- North Shore Cancer RUN as they officially had their brick unveiled at North Shore Cancer WALK/RUN Brick Dedication at the Mass General/North Shore Cancer. TWN raised an amazing $3200.00!
The Healing Garden at the Mass General/North Shore Cancer Center in Danvers, MA presents an opportunity for individuals, teams or organizations to be recognized, or to honor a loved one by having a brick inscribed and placed in the Healing Garden. Any individual, team or organization that raised or donated $3,000 or more to the 2011 North Shore Cancer WALK/RUN was eligible for a brick.
The following runners were part of TWN: Steph Hagyard, Tim Short, Beth Dixon, Courtney Silver, Mariko Weston, Marissa Rodriguez, Leeanne Nagle, Valerie Matthews, Jen Pelletier, Laura Knight and Kelly Gifford

The 2nd Annual North Shore Cancer RUN took off from Salem Willows with over 500 runners registering for this year’s race. With the sun warming up temperatures right before the start of the race, it didn’t seem to bother Dr. Alexy Kochowiec from NSMC as he torched the 3.1 mile course in 16:57. MaryKate Surette lead all females with a super fast time of 20:52. For full results please visit www.coolrunning.com.

The Wicked Running Club partners with the North Shore Medical Center on Cancer RUN which is held on the same morning as the North Shore Cancer WALK. The WALK celebrated it’s 21st year and was another huge success.
Rose Fisher & Meg Wright of NSMC praised the hard work of the RUN committee and talked about what the Wicked Running Club means to the RUN. “Overall, the race was a huge success, having over 500 runners exceeded our expectations for a second year run. It was amazing to see the amount of first time runners who were participating in honor or in memory of someone with cancer. Our partnership with the Salem Wicked Running Club is a natural fit and we are happy that everyone on the RUN committee works so hard to promote the event and make it a success. The Wicked Running Club is an asset to Salem and we could not have had such an amazing event without the talent of volunteers from this group. Thank you!”
Wicked Running Club’s own Michele Campbell who was the Co-Race Director for the RUN was thrilled with the turn out. “What I loved most about being a part of the North Shore Cancer RUN was seeing the excitement and camaraderie of the volunteers and participants working together for an important cause. It was also fantastic that we had an increase in RUN registrations over last year.”

Congratulations to everyone that participated in the 1st Annual North Shore Cancer RUN! There were 313 finishers and even though it was a tad on the warmer side there were some fantastic times. Results are on coolrunning.com and a photo album will be available soon.

Calling all Wicked Runners! The brand new North Shore Cancer RUN is just over a month away and it’s time to start thinking about getting some of the final few details in place for race day. One of those details would be making sure that we have enough volunteers at the start/finish areas and on on the course.
As you all are aware, Wicked is working with the North Shore Medical Center to do the first ever 5K Cancer RUN this year, on the 20 year anniversary of the NSMC Cancer walk. The RUN is going to have a start time of 11am on June 20th and we are still in need of volunteers! We would love to have a strong Wicked Presence and are asking for your help. Depending on your assignment, you could need to be there as early 9am and stay as late as about 1:30pm.
Family and Friends of Wicked are welcome to volunteer as well!
So, please feel free to contact Stephaine Hagyard, Tim Clarke and Alison Phelan and let us know that you can help out.
The next planning meeting for the North Shore Cancer RUN is on Thursday, May 27th at 6pm at the Senior Center located at 5 Broad St in Salem.
