Club Night @ New England Running Company

Our friends at New England Running Company have invited members of the Wicked Running Club to a special Club Night on February 29 at 7pm. There will be food and refreshments for everyone. Members will also receive 20%  off footwear/clothing!

The guest speaker for that night will be Steve Flanagan (yes.. Shalene’s dad) who will talk about his job with Asics, his running background (star runner in the early 70′s) and his daughter as she gets ready for London this summer! Steve was elected to the Colorado running “hall of fame” last year and also has coached so his insight will be on display for the evening.

If you did not recieve the Evite, please email John Mahoney and he will send one to you. Please RSVP by February 28th as we will need to give NERC a list of who is coming so that they can order food for us.

Salem Run@Work Day is a huge success!

1st Annual Salem Run@Work Day

With bright sunshine, some wonderful sponsors and 80 runners, the 1st Annual Salem Run@Work Day was a huge success for the City of Salem. Salem Park, Recreation and Community Services & the Wicked Running Club hosted this terrific event for workers not only in the City of Salem, but also for anyone around the North Shore that wanted to get a mid day run. 15 kids from the Phoenix School in Salem also participated!

Best of all, the 5K fun run was free as well as the Salem Run@Work Day shirts that are sure to be a collectors item! Mayor Kim Driscoll also stopped by to lend her support as she has done with the many other running events that Salem has to offer.

Salem Run@Work Day runners take a moment to pose for a quick photo before taking part in a 5K fun run.

The goal of Run@Work Day, presented by the Road Runners Club of America, is to encourage adults to get 30-minutes of exercise each day, in accordance with the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, either before work, during lunch, or immediately following work. Run@Work Day also encourages companies to help employees schedule time for physical activity. Incorporating exercise into one’s daily routine can markedly improve one’s overall physical health.

Mayor Kim Driscoll of Salem talks to a group of runners at Salem Run@Work Day.

To celebrate Salem being designated as a Runner Friendly Community by the Road Runners Club of America, runners received a car sticker featuring the RRCA Runner Friendly Community logo. Hopefully we will start to see more of these stickers on cars that support the running community of Salem, Massachusetts!

Thank you to all of our wondeful sponsors: B&S Fitness, Extra Effort Fitness, Body & Soul, Old Colony Running Events, St. Jean’s Credit Union, Boston Sports Club, Salem YMCA, New England Running Company, Shetland Properties, Salemroadraces.com North Shore Road Race Guide and Toomey Sports.

Fun time for all at the annual Wicked Summer Outing

Members of Wicked gather for a club photo. Wicked Runner Melissa Jaynes said on Facebook "we clean up well." Indeed we do!

With Kerry Phelan, Jason Carraro Raymond teaming  up to cook some mighty tasty hot dogs and hamburgers on the grills,  members of the Wicked Running Club gathered at Camp Naumkeag on a beautiful Saturday afternoon to enjoy not only each others company but also the success of the club.  Sure there was plenty of ice cold beer and great food, but it was really a day to pay tribute to the membership that makes this club so amazing!

Amazing doesn’t event begin to describe the dedication and spirit that the members of the Wicked Running Club show. From June 26 through July 15, WRC hosted 3 races! North Shore Cancer RUN, Wicked Kidz Half Mile & 1 Mile Race and the brand new Wicked Presents Miles Over the Moon. But it was the club’s Wicked Frosty Four that really had the spot light.

As many out there know, a portion of the race proceeds from the race goes to funding the Wicked Frosty Four scholarship that is given out each year. The Summer Outing has been the venue to invite the scholarship winners to come and accept not only their check, but also to receive a plaque and a free membership to the Wicked Running Club.

Scholarship winners Saleena Glowik, Courtney Maher, Scott O’Neil (not in picture:Dominic Barceleau) proudly hold an oversized scholarship check while Board members Melissa Jaynes Stephanie Haygard Rich Tabbut TR Ramsdell Peter Raymond and Alison Phelan also share in the spot light.

This year’s winners were Scott O’Neil, Courtney Maher, Saleena Glowik and Dominic Barceleau. Each Student-Athlete not only demonstrated high achievements in the classroom, but also in the community and in running. This year the scholarship recipients each received a scholarship totaling $1250.00! The Wicked Running Club has now given out 12 scholarships totaling $11,000.00!

Wicked also thanked Volunteer Coordinator Stephanie Hagyard for all of her hard work and dedication this year. As mentioned before, Wicked hosted an astounding 3 races in just a few short weeks, and it was Stephanie who was in charge with making sure that each race had enough volunteers so that each event was a success.

Wicked Winter Banquet

Wicked celebrated a very successful 2010 at it’s annual Winter Wicked Banquet over the past weekend. The club honored last years Board members and the club Coordinators for their hard work and dedication to Wicked. Denise Ramsdell was picked as this year’s recipient of the Wicked Volunteer award for the Wicked Frosty Four. Grand Prix awards were also given out. At the end of the night Kerry Phelan showed off her computer skills with a very cool slideshow.

Here are some photos from the event:
