On Friday April 16, 2010 Wicked and Salem Park & Rec will show two fantastic running movies at the Winter Island Function Hall which is located at 50 Winter Island Road in Salem, MA.  Doors will open around 6:30 pm and the movies will start at 7 pm.

The first movie that will be shown will be Fire on the Track! This is a Steve Prefontaine documentary (The best documentary on his life, Linda Prefontaine-sister of Pre). The second movie will be Spirit of the Marathon.

Spirit of the Marathon is the first ever non-fiction feature film to capture the drama and essence of the famed 26.2 mile running event. Filmed on four continents, the movie brings together a diverse cast of amateur athletes and marathon luminaries.As six unique stories unfold, each runner prepares for and ultimately faces the challenge of the Chicago Marathon. More than a sports movie, Spirit of the Marathon is an inspirational journey of perseverance and personal triumph; a spectacle that will be embraced by runners and non-runners alike.

The 2nd Annual Wicked Kidz Races will happen on July 17, 2010! The 1/2 mile and mile races will be held at Forest River Park and will start at 9am. There will be drinks and snacks for all participants and ribbons will be given to all finishers.

Trophys will be given to the top female and male finishers, with medals going to the top three runners in each age group. Age groups will be: 6-8, 9-11, 12-14. T-shirts will also be available to the first 75 registrants.

Once again Wicked will be partnering with the Salem Park & Recreation Department on this great family event! Cost of the each race is $2.00. Race applications can be downloaded by clicking here. For more information about the race please contact Doug Bollen.

There will be more results coming up next week as Wicked Runners take to the streets coming up this weekend in the  AOH 5K in Peabody and North Shore 30k in Hamilton. Members of Wicked headed down to Hopkinton over the past weekend to get a taste of the first half of the Boston Marathon. Starting at the official starting line of the Marathon, the group finished just after Wellesley College. A good time was had by all and enjoyed a well deserved lunch at Blue Ribbon BBQ in Newton. Interested in running the next 13.1 miles? Look for an email from Tim Clarke very soon about the next road trip to finish the Boston Marathon…in two bites!

Over the past weekend a group of Wicked Runners traveled up to Hampton, NH to take on Half at the Hamptons. Great job to everyone who ran. There were some really great times. Go Wicked!

The North Shore Striders have invited members of Wicked to join them on a 47-person bus that will head directly to Athletes Village in Hopkinton! A spacious 47-person restroom-equipped bus will deliver marathoners from the North Shore to Hopkinton on Monday, April 19.

One-way service direct to the Athlete’s Village in Hopkinton where the bus will stay from 8am until 10:30 am when the second wave of the Boston Marathon starts.

You can wait inside the bus until it’s time for you to move to the starting line or you can hang out in the Athlete’s Village. In case of inclement weather, you’ll be warm and dry with your own restroom on board.

Where to board the bus:

• at 6:00 am in front of New England Running Company, Commodore Plaza, 43 Enon Street, Rte 1A in North Beverly, or
• at 6:30 am in front of The Athlete’s Corner, 427 Paradise Road, Rte. 1A in Swampscott, near Vinnin Square (Swampscott/Salem line)

Cost: $30 per person, but $25 per person for members of the North Shore Striders or the Wicked Running Club.

At the Wicked Winter Banquet that was held this past Saturday, the name of our mascot was announced to a large group of Wicked Runners and family members.  Its an honor for me to introduce everyone in Wicked Nation to Miles the Wicked Cat! Susan Keezer was the winner of the contest to name our mascot and will have her pick of any Wicked Running Club clothing item. Congratulations Susan! Thank you to everyone who participated in the contest, there were many great names. Be sure to be on the lookout for Miles at various events during the year.

Great Job to everyone who ran the 36thAnnual Great Stew Chase! With the wind blowing and the temperatures at best freezing, members of the Wicked took on one of the more challenging races around the North Shore. The Wicked Running Club has teamed up with the North Shore Medical Center for the 1st Annual North Shore Cancer Run! The  5K race will take place on June 20, 2010 at 11 am, and will start and finish at the Salem Willows. If the date of the race sounds familiar to you, that’s because it’s also the same day as the NSMC Cancer Walk. This year the Cancer Walk will be celebrating it’s 2oth Anniversary and adding a 5K race to the event will make this day even more special!

More information about the race will be released soon. B&S Fitness Event Managment will be the official timing company for the race. Check out their website at bnsfitness.com.
