The next Board Meeting for the Wicked Running Club will be held on February 6th, 2011 at 6:30pm at the Senior Center located at 5 Broad Street in Salem.

Our friends at New England Running Company have invited members of the Wicked Running Club to a special Club Night on February 29 at 7pm. There will be food and refreshments for everyone. Members will also receive 20%  off footwear/clothing!

The guest speaker for that night will be Steve Flanagan (yes.. Shalene’s dad) who will talk about his job with Asics, his running background (star runner in the early 70′s) and his daughter as she gets ready for London this summer! Steve was elected to the Colorado running “hall of fame” last year and also has coached so his insight will be on display for the evening.

2012 Wicked Running Register

The races were chosen to represent a wide range of distances at different locales throughout the area. The distances vary from 1 mile to a 1/2 Marathon, enough to satisfy any runner. There are a total of 11 races in the series, 8 regular and 3 relays. We have estimated dates for events not posted yet. T.R. Ramsdell and Rich Tabbut are returning this year as race co-coordinators after a successful series in 2011. Also returning this year are both the Individual Grand Prix series and the Team Grand Prix series. The purpose of the team series is to ensure that all runners, regardless of ability, can compete against each other in a team format. For the second year in a row the Wicked Frosty Four wasn’t so frosty! The record breaking 770 registered runners who took part in the New Year’s Day race didn’t seem to mind the mild temperatures. In fact, the overall male and female winner set new course records! Eric Sofen (21:25) and Christine Koch 24:59 dominated the field.

The Frosty Four was also a Road Runners Club of America State Championship Race. Road Runners Club of America is the oldest and largest national association of running clubs, running events, and runners dedicated to promoting running as a competitive sport and as healthy exercise. The goal of the RRCA Championship Event Series is to shine a spotlight on well-run events and to award top performing runners in the open, masters (40+), grand masters (50+), and senior grand masters (60+) categories for both men and women. The 2011 Wicked Grand Prix was a total success! We had 2/3 of the club, 205 members take part in race distances from 1 mile to the 30k on Labor Day weekend. T.R. and I extend our thanks to the club for your support during the year and the overwhelmingly positive feedback we have received in 2011. “The purpose of the series is to increase member participation in the club, have fun, and provide opportunities for members to get together at races in the local area” We believe the series met the goals we set at the beginning of the year.

Congratulations to the 2011 team champions Cougar with 830 points! They were followed closely the Jaguars with 800 points and the Lynx with 790 points. Kudos to WRC Grand Prix champs Billy Jackson and Annie Rose Willis.
