Well, Patrick Smith (on right) was certainly busy this weekend. On Friday night, he ran in the Winthrop Seaside Striders 5K Foot Race and came in 21st (out of 208) in a time of 21:29 (6:55 pace). Patrick reports that the race actually was 3.25 miles due to the lead car taking a wrong turn. Patrick didn’t wait around for the results because it was home to bed to prepare for a 3:15 AM wake up call for the Brewery (Boston) to Brewery (Windsor, VT) 146 mile bike ride on Saturday. He and his wife, Denise Murphy, completed the ride in 8:55:00 (16.4 mph). According to Patrick, “There were a ton of hills, but we had a good time.” I’m sure you had a good time, but, man, that’s a lot of energy output. I bet those beers tasted good. Fantastic job! Congratulations.
Fathers’ Day turned out to be rather wet and dreary; however, the weather did not deter several Wicked runners from traveling to Rockport to run in the 5K and 10K races. Rich Tomlins, Tim Short, Billy Prentiss, Doug Bollen, Beth O’Grady, and Kerry Gertz all performed well. Tim came in second overall in the 10K and Beth O’Grady was second in her age group in the 10K. Kerry Gertz finsihed 41st in the 10K, not bad given the tough hills and the heavy rain. Billy Prentiss finished 2nd in his age group in the 5K, Rich came in 5th overall in the 5K, and Doug was 40th out of a field of 108 in the 5K. You can check out the results at http://www.coolrunning.com/results/08/ma/Jun15_7thAnn_set4.shtml. Tim Short has run this race two years in a row now and gives it “about a C+.” It is expensive. $30 the day of the race. The amenities are pretty basic, and Tim feels they would get a bigger draw if they offered more. Now, nothing can compare to our Frosty Four for amenities! Good job, everybody.
Earlier in the week on Wednesday night, we had runners (and bikers) competing in the Lynn Woods 2.5 mile and 5.5 mile trail runs, and also in the duathlon (2.5 mile run, 5.5 mile bike, 2.5 mile run). Congratulations to Jay Curry for finishing 2nd and Dan Cooper for finishing 4th in the duathlon (out of 17). Wicked runners chose the longer of the two trail races with Liz Touchette, Steve Touchette, Deb Touchette, Doug Bollen, Chip Bott, Beth O’Grady, Karen Giroux, and Steph Cooper tramping through the Woods. Check out the results at www.lwrun.org/.
