Calling all Volunteers! Wicked 1/2 Marathon!
I know many of our club members are planning to run the Wicked 1/2 Marathon on Saturday 9/26/2009. Wicked will have a water stop on the route, and we need your help! If you are available that morning to volunteer, please let me know as soon as possible. Responsibilities will likely include help with setting up our table, pouring water into cups, and handing water to runners needing hydration during the race. The more we have helping, the easier all of this is!
And of course, we will serve as a rally station for our fellow Wicked runners, as well as cheering on ALL runners that morning! Email me as soon as you can if you are able to help. And of course, good luck to everyone running that day!

The fourth annual Wayland XC Festival, presented by the Baldwin Insurance Agency, will be held on Sunday, October 11. This exciting event is held on the cross-country trails of the Wayland High School.
Whether you are new to cross-country or a veteran of the trails, this is an event for you. With a wide variety of terrain, including open fields, wooded trails, gravel roads and even a little sand, the Wayland XC Festival races are fun and challenging.
The festival includes three races:
- An open 5k race for all ages
- A youth 3k race for ages 11 to 14
- A youth 3k race for ages 10 and under
We have lots of age classes and over 70 awards, including trophies, medals, plaques, gift certificates from Marathon Sports and free shoes from Inov-8 and Vibram FiveFingers. Each of the races includes team competitions. And this year we added a competition for high school teams.
Our post-race raffles, sponsored by Wayland Kitchens, are free to all participants and include great running gear and other surprises. The Wayland XC Festival races are not only fun to participate in; the races are also fun to watch. Spectators get to see the runners at many points during the race.
Be sure to check out the event website at www.WaylandXC.com where you can get details about the Wayland XC Festival, including registration details, course maps and descriptions, past results and photos, and testimonials from some of the people who have participated in this fun event.
Pre-registration is only $5 for the youth events and for high school runners and only $10 for adults! Any questions can be directed to Eric Bucher, Race Director, at Eric@WaylandXC.com or 508-397-1261.
